Where to go in June: 3 Memorial Places in Daegu & Gyeongbuk, Korea

June is the month when Koreans pay tribute to men and women who sacrificed their lives for the country. The most significant event that people know is the Korean war that broke out on June 25. Also, you will notice that many Koreans don’t go to work tomorrow, which is June 6, the Memorial Day. So, we are introducing 3 spots that are related to the noble month of June!

Nakdongang River Victory Memorial Hall
Both outside and inside of the hall is filled with items that were actually used in the war. This is the main reason we think it’s visit worthy although English translation is not provided in most part Visuals can tell much more than words.

Chunghontop Memorial Tower
15 minutes from the Nakdong Memorial Hall by walk, Chunghontop Memorial Park was also built to commemorate men and women who sacrificed their lives for the county. Originally, visitors have to climb 108 steps to reach the tower but now they have an elevator that was recently built.

Dabudong War Memorial Museum
Dabudong War Memorial Museum invites is visitors with a powerful quotation, “Freedom is not free.” Like the Nakdongang Hall, this place displays objects from the Korean war such as grenade and binoculars.  Tanks located outside are children’s favorite attraction of the place.
