Cherry blossom season is just around the corner. Don’t we all LOVE this time of the year? The flowr is expected to start blooming in the end of March. Since the blossom last for short, we’ve compiled local’s secrets to navigate cherry blossom streets in Duryu Park/Eworld and Apsan areas. More of our little secrets will come in the next  weeks, so keep coming back!

Duryu Park & Eworld

The road between Duryu Park and Eworld is are one of the most beautiful spots to enjoy cherry blossoms. Enjoy old cherry blossoms lined along the streets!

Eworld

Don’t miss out the inside of Eworld since this huge park has pale-pink trees blooming throughout the park. No wonder it is known for its Starlight Cherry Blossom Festival.

Apsan Cafe Street

10 minutes away from Eworld/Duryu Park is the infamous Apsan Café Street! From Apsan Intersection, Nammyeong Intersection to Hyungchung 3-way street, the road is decorated with this spring flower spectacles.

Road to Apsan Ppallaeteo Park

Don’t stop at Apsan Café Street and make a right turn at the very top! If you turn right at Hyungchung 3-way street and walk for a couple of minutes, another cherry blossom street starts! Many Daegu people know about Apsan Café Street’s cherry blossoms but not here! It’s the least known spot in the district.

Apsan Park

Begin again at the very end of Apsan Café Street, Hyungchung 3-way street, and make a left turn. You will pass by Chunghontop Tower. The street will eventually lead to Apsan Park Cafeteria and you can enjoy a peaceful afternoon in the scent of cherry blossom. It’s the street that lead to the Apsan Observatory. Be aware that it might not be a walking distance from the café street.

Jeongwol Daeboreum Festival 2018 (1st Full Moon Festival)

Daeboreum(대보름) refers to the first full moon of the year by lunar calendar. Because moon symbolized prosperity for Korean ancestors, daeboreum day was a meaningful day to celebrate and make wishes for peace and successful harvest in a neighborhood.

Among many rituals and games Koreans do on this day, Daljib Taewugi(달집 태우기, burning a house of full moon) makes the most spectacular scene; Koreans gather together to burn Daljib, which is a large pile of straw and branches so as to drive out evil fate and pray for prosperity.

There are 2 Daeboreum festivals worth checking out this year: one by Buk-gu disctrict office and one by Dong-gu office. You can watch Daljib Taewugi ritual and also other events and performances.

Recreating March 1st Movement

March 1st Movement is one of the most significant Korean’s public displays of resistance against unjust oppression by Japan. The central place for the movement was Seoul and soon it spread to other regions including Daegu.

In Daegu, this non-violent movement continued on the 8^th. People traveled through March 1st Movement Stair to Dongsan Museum. To commemorate the sacrifice and meaning involved with the resistant activity, 1,000 citizens will gather together recreate the scene. They will declare independence and march through the road.

Starlight Cherry Blossom Festival

Cherry Blossom season is coming soon! This year, this snow-like flower is expected to start blooming at the end of March. Starlight Cherry Blossom Festival at Eworld is a great way to enjoy. Roller coasters, events and cherry blossom themed snacks are all in one place! Moreover, it becomes more fantastical with countless lights reflected on the petals.

Opera Universiade

An international collegiate festival, “Opera Universiade”, will take place in Daegu. Vocal music majors from 9 colleges ranging from Kyungpook University to University of Music and Perfroming Arts(Vienna) will perform Le Nozze di Figaro. From March 8 to 10, there will be one performance each day. The opera will be played in Italian by 8 vocalists carefully selected from auditions.

Discounted Tickets for Flights (Seoul to Daegu)

The last date to fly to Seoul(Gimpo) from Daegu at discounted price is March 24. For the flights from now to March 24 costs 26,000 won(flat rate) including other taxes. Daegu – Gimpo flights are available around 8 in the afternoon on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday. For Gimpo-Daegu flights, you can choose to travel among Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday or Saturday at 6:55 in the morning.
