Korea's Spring Snack: Mugwort rice cake, Jeon, Muk, Korean crackers


Top seasonal snack food you should taste on spring and early summer in South Korea
If you are in South Korea this time, don’t forget to taste some tasty and healthy spring snacks which I recommend as below immediately and try not to get too hungry as you are reading.

No 1. Mugwort rice cake


Mugwort is considered as a kind of herbal medicine and healthy food in Korea. It was used for a long time ago until now. Spring is peak harvest time and eats Mugwort rice cake which mainly made from mugwort, rice powder, red bean inside and covered by bean powder outside.  According to Eastern medicine, it has warming nature so it helps strengthen the functions of liver, bowels, stomach, kidneys and relieves stomachaches. It is actually high in minerals and vitamins, which are good for neuralgia and stanching. It has high content of vitamin A and C that make good ingredient for preventing or treating a cold. Wow, how amazing, right? Let go to buy and taste this wonderful cake right now.

No 2. Jeon (Korean pizza)
Jeon is a kind of snack or dessert in South Korea, this dish is made by adding spring onions cut long into floor dough and pan-frying it. It can be mixed with some other ingredients such as seafood, meat, kimchi, vegetables, etc. to have various taste. However, the most popular one is thin flat pancake with flour and spring onion only, it is served as an appetizer, side dish or eaten with drinks.



Where to find this cake:Traditional market such as Seomun market, Dongdeagu market, Chilseong market, etc. vendor food stores, or traditional food restaurants. It cost ₩ 5,000 – 8,000 per piece.
Otherwise, you can make it buy yourself, it very easy to buy all the ingredients and cooking. I’m sure that you will eat this cake regularly like me :)
  

  
No 3. Muk (Korean jelly)

Muk is a traditional Korean food that mainly made from grains, beans starch such as buckwheat, sesame, acorn, etc. and has a jelly-like consistency. Muk has little flavor on its own, so that it was mixed with soy sauce, sesame oil, chili powder and various vegetables.
Where to find this cake:Traditional market such as Seomun market, Dongdeagu market, Chilseong market, etc. and some vendor food stores. It cost ₩ 3,500 – 5,000 per bowl.


You can buy all the ingredients and mix base on your taste. I tried and served to my friends and myself and they said that it is tastier than restaurant. :)

   

No 4.  Korean crackers (Sang Gwa ja 생과자)


생과자 is very popular in South Korea, it has various taste, shape, ingredient, and smell. As I’m sure you’re aware, all of the most delicious snacks in life are full of some form of sugar, flour, or oil. I am excited to inform you that Korean sweet cakes are full of all three of those delicious ingredients!
This snack is also perfect for an early day craving because it’s light enough that if you’ve had a large breakfast (or if you have a large lunch coming up), it’ll satisfy your snack craving without making you too full or ruining your appetite. Also, although we’ve been singing the praises of waffle mate paired with a hot beverage, they’re also fantastic on their own so don’t be discouraged if you don’t have a cup of coffee handy.
