Korea May Blossoms| Nature at its Finest in Daegu Retusa Fringe Tree Forest

Are you a lover of nature looking for somewhere to relax and enjoy the beauty of nature in all its fullness alone or with your loved one? Look no further and take and visit to Retusa Fringe Tree Forest (이팝나무숲). Depending on your proximity it might be a bit far, but thanks to public transportation, you don’t have to break your wallet to get here.

It’s a small protected Habitat of the rare Retusa Fringe tree only native to eastern Asian countries Korea, Japan, China and Taiwan. It is located at Ipamnamu-gil in Dalseong-gun, which is quite away from main cities, hence very quiet and serene environment that is good for relaxation.

The entrance is a difficult one to miss because it is located in the open. As you can see in the above image, cars cannot go through, however bicycles as well as pets are allowed but be ready to clean up after your pets.

Immediately past the entrance your eyes are graced by the beauty of nature in all its greenery and white blooms (if you visit during its blooming period). Around this Habitat are vast farm lands which gives the area nice smell of loaming soil.

Tired of walking? Don’t fret, there are several of benches like the one pictured above where you can sit down and rest and also the hanok styled sun shade you can rest in if it is too sunny.

Now time for quick history lesson. You might be wondering how the tree got its name Ipamnamu. To Koreans especially the elderly ones, is more than just a rare Fringe tree.

It was believed that the fully bloomed flowers of the tree signifies a good year for crop harvest, because the full bloom looks just like strands of white rice crop.
